Dear Sister

My mom gave birth to two children — my brother and me — yet strangely, I never grew up feeling like I did not have a sister.

Maybe because life quietly placed so many wonderful cousins beside me that the absence never truly existed. They became the people I laughed with, cried with, borrowed clothes from, shared secrets with, and grew up beside.

And honestly, one of the reasons this little business exists is because of them. They believed in my words long before I knew what to do with them. In many ways, they are the reason these poems ever left my diary.

So I wrote this poem for them.

For the kind of love that makes you realize family is sometimes chosen for you beautifully.

And if you are lucky enough to have someone who feels like both a friend and a sister, maybe this poem already belongs to them.
